A 32-year-old man, Johnson Bamigbala, has been arraigned before an Ebute Meta Magistrate's Court for allegedly stealing N2,068,490 belonging to a firm, Clarion Medicals Limited, where he worked as a salesman.
Bamigbala, who resided in Barnawa, Kaduna State, was said to have collected drugs worth the sum from the company in January, 2013.
He was said to have absconded with the drugs shortly after collecting them without remitting the money to the company or returning the goods.
The police said attempts to get the money were rebuffed by the defendant.
When arrested, he allegedly could not account for the drugs and the money, but promised to pay back.
He allegedly defaulted on the promise to refund the money to the company's head, Eze Umunna.
He was subsequently arrested and arraigned on two counts of stealing.
The charge reads in part, "That you did steal the sum of N2, 068,490 property of Clarion Medicals Limited, represented by Eze Cavin Umunna."
The police prosecutor, Cousin Adams, said the offence was punishable under the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
The magistrate, Mr. K.O Ogundare, admitted him to bail in the sum of N500,000 .
