Abandoning a wife by husband after childbirth in any part of Ekiti may soon become an officially punishable crime.
Mrs. Bisi Fayemi, the wife of Ekiti governor, Kayode Fayemi, spoke about it in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday while paying a sympathy visit to one Mrs. Bosede Omole, whose husband escaped right after she had given birth to triplets.
Fayemi lamented the uncaring manner in which mothers were usually abandoned by their husbands soon after delivery of new babies, especially multiple births.
According to the official, such a behaviour is not only wicked but it is also "a betrayal of the marriage trust between couples".
To handle the situation the governor's wife promised to sponsor a bill at the state House of Assembly under her pet project called Ekiti Development Foundation (EDF).
As for the mother of the triplets, she promised that EDF would take up the children's care. Moreover, Fayemi promised financial support for the lady to set up a business.
Touched Omole could not believe that God could provide her succour through the governor's wife after her husband's sudden escape.
