The Kumasi Central Market, described as the biggest open market in West Africa, is currently on fire. Luv FM's Erastus Asare Donkor reports that more than 20 shops are up in flames. Goods worth millions of Ghana cedis are also currently being reduced to ashes by the blazing inferno. Shop owners and residents in the area are looking on helplessly. Personnel of the Ghana Fire Service are yet to arrive at the scene of the fire that started barely 30 minutes ago. This would be the third fire in less than a year.
In June last year, about 30 shops were razed down in a similar fire incident at the market. Erastus says wailing shopowners are blaming Wednesday dawn's fire on faulty electrical wires.
